Lauren’s breakthrough work, which she conducted as a postdoctoral fellow with David Ginty at Harvard Medical School, demonstrated that genetic defects in the peripheral sensory neurons of mice can give rise to a phenotype closely resembling Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This allowed for further exploration of the biology of ASD and potential therapeutic approaches, such as alteration of sensory input to ameliorate the effects of ASD.<\/p>\n
